Welcome!

Thank you for visiting! On this page, you will find up-to-date information on my academic interests and research activities. I am a new postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Linguistics and Cultural Evolution at the MPI-EVA. I recently obtained my Ph.D. in Linguistics from the Department of Linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin, and I also hold an M.A. in Linguistics from the Universidad de Sonora (México). My academic training began with a B.A. in Letters (emphasis on Linguistics) and a teaching degree in Language and Literature from my alma mater Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (Argentina).

I grew up in Villa Ángela, a charming small town in northeastern Argentina. My hometown is famous for its carnival celebrations and for being home to one of the largest Mocoví indigenous communities in Argentina. Since 2011, I have had the privilege of conducting fieldwork and linguistic research in my home state, exploring the fascinating Mocoví language and culture.

Research

My research lies at the intersection of Documentary and Descriptive Linguistics, with a strong emphasis on community-based models for language and social empowerment of indigenous communities. I focus mostly on South American indigenous languages and the social and linguistic effects that these languages have come to have on local varieties of Spanish and vice versa. I am currently working on a multimodal open-access documentation of Mocoví (ISO: 639-3 moc), a Gauycuruan language spoken in northeastern Argentina. In the last six years, this documentation project has been funded by the Department of Linguistics at UT Austin and more recently by the Endangered Language Documentation Programme and the National Science Foundation.
